Day Trippin with the Kids

It's spring break here in Colorado. Considering we spent the week before in sunny Arizona, we are staying home this week. But instead of sitting around at home staring at each other we decided to take a day trip to Manitou Springs. I had a friend recently post about her visit to the Cliff Dwellings......and my first questions was "there are cliff dwellings in Manitou Springs?" I honestly had no idea they even existed.

I have to admit, I have lived in Colorado for almost 40 years and I have never been to or even heard of them. Actually I haven't been to much more than the Denver metro area! I'm not sure why, I just didn't do a lot of local exploring growing up and for the past 17 years we have been busy raising kids.

Don't get me wrong, we did our day trips with the kids to places that were close enough to home that if there was a melt down or the random puke or accident we could get back in a reasonable time.

But my kids are older now and we have definitely taken advantage of it. We have gone on many excursions and some decent travel (California, Iowa, St. Thomas) . But we are also realizing that it can cost a pretty penny or credit card to do this with a family of 5. So I have decided that I (and when I say I, I really mean we, because the kids don't have a choice) am going to explore Colorado as much as I can while we are saving up for the more expensive and extravagant trips!

So here we go, our first day trip of 2017 to Manitou Springs, CO
